Help and questions
What people ask most before buying and during the first sends. For anything else: contact@gradeflowstudio.com.
Before you buy
Does it work with the free version of DaVinci Resolve?
No. The free version of Resolve doesn't let an outside tool open a project and import a timeline into it, so automatic sending requires DaVinci Resolve Studio. The panel detects the free version and tells you before sending.
What about Windows?
Version 2 is macOS only, on an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer) with macOS 15 or later: DaVinci Resolve 21 no longer runs on Intel Macs. A Windows version will come later, with no date for now.
Which versions of Premiere Pro and Resolve?
Premiere Pro 2025 or 2026 (versions 25 and 26) and DaVinci Resolve Studio 21, on macOS. That is the setup GRADEFLOW is tested with.
Resolve Studio 18, 19 and 20 haven't been tested: the panel warns you before sending, and the result isn't guaranteed. Testing was done on an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26. macOS 15, the minimum Resolve 21 requires, hasn't been checked on a real machine yet.
My Resolve isn't installed in the Applications folder.
GRADEFLOW finds it automatically: in a subfolder of Applications, in your account's Applications folder, or on another drive. If it can't, choose it by hand in the panel's “Réglages” (Settings), DaVinci Resolve section, “Choisir” (Choose) button. If several versions are installed, the one that is open takes priority, and the Settings show which one is used.
Does GRADEFLOW modify my Premiere project or my media?
Your media is never modified: the XML points to it, and rendered clips are new files written to the sends folder. To render a clip, Premiere works on a temporary copy of the sequence, which is deleted afterward. Your edited sequence stays as it is.
What about the project I have open in Resolve?
Before opening its own project, GRADEFLOW saves the Resolve project you had open, and the send report mentions it. Nothing in it is changed: the timeline is created in a separate project.
Can I bring the graded clips back into Premiere?
Version 2 is designed for finishing the film in Resolve: grading, mixing in Fairlight and the final export. The automatic return to Premiere isn't enabled.
What goes, what doesn't
How does the audio arrive in Resolve?
Each Premiere track becomes a Resolve track, with the original clips. Levels, gain, volume keyframes, fades and pan carry over, as do the track faders and the Master's.
Fades become Resolve transitions. A fade attached to the neighboring clip, with no crossfade, stays as volume keyframes. Premiere's exponential and constant power curves don't have quite the same shape in Resolve: you hear the difference mostly at the end of the fade.
Why aren't my audio effects in Resolve?
Resolve doesn't let a script add a Fairlight effect, and the exchange format it imports doesn't carry audio effects. EQs, compressors, Essential Sound and Master effects therefore stay in Premiere. The send report lists them track by track, so you can redo them in Fairlight.
What about my After Effects compositions?
A composition is rendered by After Effects itself, at full resolution, then placed in its spot in the Resolve timeline. If you change it afterward, the “Mettre à jour les compositions After Effects” (Update After Effects compositions) button replaces it in Resolve without touching the grade. A composition in 16 or 32 bit, or one with an adjustment applied in Premiere, is rendered by Premiere as ProRes 4444. Speed ramps and reverse playback, on the other hand, go out on the original media.
Does my Lumetri grade go too?
No. Premiere's color effects (Lumetri, LUTs) don't go, since grading happens in Resolve. Clips arrive raw, as log if they were shot in log.
What about titles and subtitles?
Simple titles become Text+ titles, editable in Resolve. Animated titles and MOGRTs are rendered with their transparency and placed on their track.
Subtitles arrive as editable text, and their .srt file is put in the bin. Resolve doesn't let a script create a real subtitle track.
What should I check by eye after a send?
What the report flags. In practice: opacity fades, whose brightness can vary a little during the fade; adjustment layers; transitions rendered by Premiere; and clips for which the report says “cadrage à vérifier” (framing to check).
How much disk space do I need?
Clips sent on the original media take almost nothing. Rendered clips are ProRes 4444, about 6 GB per minute in 4K. The panel watches the free space during renders; an external drive is recommended for the sends folder.
License and order
Can I try it before buying?
Yes, for 3 days, with no credit card and no email address. Install the extension, open the panel and click “Essayer gratuitement pendant 3 jours” (Try free for 3 days). The details are on the Pricing page.
There is one trial per Mac, even after a reinstall. During the trial, the Mac must be connected to the internet before each send.
How many Macs can I use it on?
Two at a time. “Libérer ce Mac” (Release this Mac), in the panel's Settings, frees the spot for another one, three times per 30-day period. Beyond that, or if a Mac is lost or broken, write to contact@gradeflowstudio.com and we will release the machine.
Do I need to be online?
To activate the key, yes. After that, GRADEFLOW works for 30 days without a connection; beyond that, a minute online is enough to extend it. Your sequences and your media never leave your Mac.
Are updates included?
Yes, all version 2 updates, free and with no delay, whenever you bought. A future version 3 may be paid. If it comes out, your version 2 keeps working and nothing forces you to get it.
How does an update work?
The panel tells you when a new version is published and what it changes. Download the new GRADEFLOW.zxp file, quit Premiere Pro, then install it with ZXP/UXP Installer, the same way as the first time.
The new version replaces the old one. Your key stays valid, so there is nothing to reactivate. Your settings and sends are kept.
Who sells me GRADEFLOW?
Paddle.com, the official reseller and merchant of record. Paddle takes the payment, issues the invoice and handles refunds. The publisher of GRADEFLOW is named in the legal notice.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within 30 days of purchase, with no need to justify it. See the refund policy.
